My mission is to teach students eager to learn about the harp. It can be difficult to access the harp community for a couple reasons; accessibility, financial deterrents, and in some communities, few professional harpists. I hope to break down barriers in finding a harp teacher as well as finding a harp for any student to learn and use. I like to teach students of all ages and backgrounds. While open to many genres, I specialize in classical harp and pop transcriptions. I believe that the best teachers are also active performers, and because of that, I like to keep a lighter studio load that gives me time to practice and prepare for my own engagements. I find that the best fit with me are students that are driven to learn, curious, and communicative. I plan on making lessons fun and enjoyable while still accomplishing goals. I love to work with my students to find the best way to incorporate a love for all music in their everyday life. I’m always looking for opportunities to help my students shine.

I have 3 main ideals that I use to run a successful studio and all of my students should feel these qualities being put into practice at every lesson. First, I strive to be personable and friendly to all. Second, I will keep an open dialogue throughout lessons to help instill an environment that will allow students to bring up any concerns they have whether musical or otherwise. Third, I encourage students to come with a curious mind, asking lots of questions and always looking for self-betterment. My hope is to cultivate a love for all types of music whether going to hear concerts by someone playing your instrument or seeing a show. Having a love for music should be lifelong, not just while taking lessons.

When teaching, I plan on placing importance on technique from the first lesson. Having the correct form for your body will help ensure a safe way to practice. As well, learning to not only master the instrument but the maintenance of the instrument will give you security to be prepared for any issue (mainly strings breaking). As the students advance, I find it important to incorporate sight reading as a monthly activity. Not only how to, but the tips and tricks to progress and become proficient. This can be especially difficult as a harpist because levers and pedals require preparation.out
